Jose Sosa is a visual artist and educator based in West New York, New Jersey. As a first-generation American, the son of Salvadoran parents, Sosa’s artistic journey has been deeply influenced by his multicultural background. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Drawing and Painting from New Jersey City University in 2020 and completed his master’s degree in Studio Art at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, three years later.
Growing up in a vibrant and diverse community, Sosa developed a profound appreciation for music, which has become a cornerstone of his creative practice. His experience of synesthesia—a condition where senses overlap, allowing him to perceive sounds as colors—has significantly shaped his artistic approach.
Sosa’s current series exemplifies his ability to translate the auditory experience of music into vivid, dynamic visual compositions. By capturing the emotional essence of songs through color, shape, and form, he invites viewers into a realm where music is not only heard but seen. His work provides a unique perspective on the intersection of pop culture and fine art, making the intangible connections between sound and vision tangible. Through his art, Sosa seeks to share his distinctive experience of music and offer audiences a fresh lens through which to engage with the songs that shape our lives.
