Curatorial Statement
As spring arrives, "Secret Garden" beckons us into a sublime scene of mystical beauty within the garden. This exhibit features a selection of paintings themed around botany and fauna, showcasing the complex and intricate relationships between these elements. Through these paintings, viewers are encouraged to appreciate the biodiversity of our world and to contemplate the potential negative impacts of human actions on nature.
While the overarching theme is "nature," the paintings are further divided into smaller
sections focusing on flowers, insects, and animals, either as series or as diptychs or trip-tychs. Composition plays a crucial role in these artworks, highlighting the relationships between different forms, shapes, and lines as they interact and harmonize together. Each piece is meticulously crafted with acrylic pigment and detailed pen and ink drawings, bringing the structures and textures of flowers and fauna to life.
The vibrant and accurate depictions invite viewers to lose themselves in the immersive and intricate details and patterns, as if stepping into the garden itself. The color choices further enhance this sense of harmony, drawing viewers deeper into the painting without distraction, allowing them to experience the dynamic and magical interplay of botanical compositions and fauna.
As visitors journey through the exhibition, they are encouraged to admire nature's diversity, enduring beauty, and boundless creativity. A goal of this exhibition is to evoke a sense of awe and wonder - akin to entering and wandering through a secret garden, rather than just viewing paintings in a gallery. These subtle details whisper of nature's continual beauty, inviting viewers to observe, experience and appreciate it more deeply.
The artist, hailing from a Serbian background, found inspiration in nature as a part of their
own healing journey following the upheavals of war and the disintegration of their former country. The "Secret Garden" offers a tranquil space for visitors to discover their own inner
peace and connection with nature. Ultimately, the exhibition challenges us to consider nature as the greatest artist and to reflect on the potential negative impacts of human actions that could ieopardize the continued safet of this secret garden.
